It is their brilliance that most people think when they hear the term "crystal". Also appreciated are the gemstones such as carnelian, garnet, rock crystal and lazuli. Gems have been used as ornaments and symbols of power for millennia. In addition to their beauty, each was charged with a sacred meaning. For ancient cultures, their healing properties were as important as their ornamental role. The crystals have the same characteristics, without always being as flamboyant as gems.
